Midweek Music Preview is our weekly rundown of everything happening on stages across the city. On the docket this week: we have Soul II Soul Soundsystem kicking off their November edition of Mao Livehouse’s Club Night, then Rocksgiving, Laura Jansen’s China tour, and the Shanghai debuts of Mogwai and Trail of Tears! Soul II Soul Soundsystem @ MAO Livehouse Mao Livehouse is hosting their first “Club Night” tonight! Kicking off Volume 1 of what will be an exciting new series of club music is Soul II Soul Soundsystem, who scored in the late 80’s with the UK chart-topper Back to Life (However Do You Want Me). They’ve been doing the festival circuit in UK and Australia, but now they’re in Shanghai to pump pump pump it up. Supporting will be DJ V-Nutz (who is amazing, by the way) and DJ Shinge. Rocksgiving @ Yuyintang Thanksgiving in China doesn’t need to be a day homesick moping, since YYT’s got you covered with BEAN’s 2nd annual Rocksgiving concert! The evening will consist of 7 local acts, including Boys Climbing Ropes, Rainbow Danger Club and The Next Year’s Love will get sweaty at Yuyintang, to benefit BEAN and the Concordia Welfare & Education Fund’s programs. Come out to Rocksgiving to have a rockin’ good time, and it doesn’t hurt that it’s also for a good cause. Collect those karma points, because Christmas is right around the corner!

Laura Jansen @ Yuyintang Dutch-American singer-songwriter Laura Jansen is on a 4-date China tour, including a local stop at Yuyintang. She’s gained unexpected fame in China after Split Works boss Archie Hamilton started a Douban group for her (he spotted her and SxSW and was impressed.) The Twelves @ Shanhai S.T.D. is presenting Rio De Janeiro’s The Twelves, who were formed by two guys with the same birthday. The duo remixes songs from all over the world, with a unique style that blends drum machines, live keyboards, and of course their well known mash-ups and spontaneous remixes.
