The Shelter turns four this week and they’re celebrating with two nights of sweaty dancing and some excellent international DJs. Speaking of international DJs, DJ Jazzy Jeff is in town this weekend for Hip Hop Hijack at Zeal! A Few People Through a Rather Brief Moment in Time @ M50 Creative Space
Gracing M50 will be a few bands, a cello duet, and a solo performance this Saturday. Art will be on display by local artists while Urban Female Plastic and Kuang Grade Mark provide the chill tunes. Urban Female Plastic is an American duo with their very own schizophrenic genre, pulling inspiration from bluegrass to heavy metal to alternative rock with electric cellos. Kuang Grade Mark Eleven will be playing something called ‘cyclical music’. All proceeds go to charity.

Biking for BEAN @ Kaiba
Local charity group Bean is hosting a five hour bike crawl through Shanghai so get out your bikes, limber up, and give a little to charity. You bring the bike, they bring their super cool shiny vest, beer, and the route through secret streets in Shanghai. Money raised will go to BEAN programs in need of funding such as library books for Reading Buddies, supplies for an animal foster home, and buses to take kids in wheelchairs to the park. Book launch: Middle Kingdom Underground @ River South Arts Center The River South Arts festival continues into its third day with a book launch from HAL Publishing. Middle Kingdom Underground is their second volume of short stories coming out of China. 100RMB cover gets you a copy of the book.
