On Saturday, couples who were willing to make out on stage for one minute were offered a 10,000RMB discount towards a housing purchase at Prince Residence (王子公馆) apartment complex in Nanjing’s Jiangning District.
A variety of couples took part, including some that were a bit gun-shy when it came to the moment of make-out truth, two cute toddler girls forced on stage by their parents, and even an old husband and wife in their sixties, who just sort of held each other in a mortified fashion.
However, prospective buyers found out eventually that they’d been had, since prices for apartments were actually higher than advertised. A prominently displayed rate of 7999RMB per square meter was actually offered for only one out of the 120 units on sale at the promotional event. Getting people to kiss on stage to create buzz for your overpriced apartments? Now that’s some pretty slick marketing.
When questioned by a reporter, one woman said she was unwilling to kiss her significant other on stage, since she subscribed to traditionally Chinese values.
Really, lady? We’re going to have to call bullshit on this one, since angling for a discount is about as traditionally Chinese as it gets.
