The Zhejiang city of Yongkang (永康) recently witnessed a series of attacks from a helmeted brick-wielding thief, who robbed his victims while they were depositing and withdrawing money from the city’s ATM machines.
Xu Guode, a native of Jiangxi province, operated by disguising himself in various motorcycle helmets, and struck his victims in the head from behind, before making off with their cash and valuables.
On November 14th, Xu stole 3000RMB from a woman who just withdrew cash from an ATM, along with 900RMB in her wallet. Two days later, Xu stole 47,000RMB from a man depositing money into a CRM (Cash Recycling Machine, used for deposits), along with the iPhone his victim was talking on. After being apprehended by local police, Xu’s tally was reported as being over 80,000RMB accumulated through multiple pre-meditated attacks.
And in a far less violent incident from July of last year, a straw-hat wearing burglar stole 500,000RMB in cash from an ATM, aided by little more than pliers, a cleaver, and a crowbar.
Though we’ve always been trusting and contrarian enough to neglect securing the little latch for the glass door when we do our ATM business, you can rest assured that we’ve been scared straight by the footage of Xu’s attacks. Be careful out there, folks!
