Amici's Pizza is coming to Shanghai

amicis-pizza-coming-shanghai.jpg Shanghai already has New York Style Pizza, but do we have San-Francisco-style-New-York-style pizza? We will soon. We just heard from a devoted Amici's pizza fan that the popular chain of California-based "East Coast Pizzarias" is set to open up a location on Huaihai Lu called "Ello Amici's".

Peter Cooperstein from Boston and Mike Forter from New York started up Amici's ("A Taste of New York") back in 1987 in San Mateo. They now have 12 locations around the Bay Area and another planned in San Diego. This jump to Shanghai seems like a big one, but they're partnered with a real estate developer here and already speak of plans of expanding to Hong Kong, Beijing, Macau, and beyond. So who's to say?

We've been dying for another American-style pizza option, and these guys might be it. They say their prices will be about 10% cheaper than in California, which would make a standard large (15 inch) pizza cost somewhere around $20 (127RMB). That's one inch less and 15RMB more than a large pepperoni from NY Style Pizza. We'll just have to wait and see if it's worth it!

I've eaten at the mountain view Amicis in CA and now the Shanghai Amicis and they both have great pizza. SH now has a great pizza. The medium was $18 and the large $20. It was a very good value with the great tasting food, environment, and service. Worth the two hour bus ride from Minhang.

I've eaten at the mountain view amicis in CA and now the shanghai amicis and the pizza is great and is a welcome addition to all the bad pizza in SH. A large pizza is only $20 and medium $18 and is a good value for the great taste, service, and environment. Worth the two hour bus ride from Minhang.
