These pictures are the result of a photography contest by the United Nations Development Program and the Xinhua News Agency to raise awareness about child labor in Liangshan county, Sichuan province.
The group of black and white pictures capture the grey, daily lifes of thirteen children in Sichuan, where they drag baskets in a coal mine in order to survive. The tunnel holes are often less than 1 meter in width.
The youngest worker Bi Ala is only a 14-year old girl, who has to crawl to the mud filled tunnels at least 50 times a day just to make 26 yuan, just enough to feed her self.
