The rumors were true! According to Mirror Football, Shanghai Shenhua have offered Chelsea star Didier Drogba upwards of £300,000 (almost $465,000) per week to come play in China. That’s half again the enormous contract signed with Nicolas Anelka just last month.
From Mirror Football:
The Chinese club are proposing an incredible two-and-a half-year basic package, plus image rights, goal bonuses and success incentives that would make the striker one of the best paid players in the world.
The 33-year-old could earn in excess of £300,000-a-week and mega-rich Shenhua are putting pressure on him to sign a pre-contract agreement – as he is out of contract in the summer, he’s now free to talk to non-English clubs.
Whether he takes the offer and actually sets foot in Shanghai is another thing entirely, but holy f*ck we’re excited anyway!
There were also rumors of talks between Drogba and the Guangzhou Evergrande, which have now been put firmly to rest. No word on the slightly smaller offer ($312,000 per week) from Dalien.
