If you’re a girl, that is. If you are female and have ever had the slightest inclination to futz around with building web applications, then you should check out what’s happening over at Rails Girls Shanghai later this month. But the application deadline is tomorrow, so hurry up!
Rails Girls is an organization out of Finland that organizes two-day workshops giving women an introduction to Ruby on Rails, an open-source web framework. They’ve previously held events in Helsinki and Singapore, and they’ll be hosting a workshop in Shanghai on Nov 20-21.
Here’s more from their website:
Who is this aimed for? Women of any age with basic knowledge of working with a computer. We’ve had people of all ages taking part. Most of the program is run in english and please bring your laptop.
Can men attend? Yes, but you need to be accompanied by an interested lady. Also, girls are given a priority.
I know how to program – How can I help? We’re also looking for people to be coaches. We’ll have a two-three hour workshop before the event to walk you through the curriculum. Email us.
Instruction will be available in both English and Chinese, pending whatever works best for the group. They are hoping to accommodate 30 women, who will work in small groups of 4-6, depending on how many coaches they have on hand.
If you’re interested in applying, the deadline is tomorrow, February 10. Apply here, and they’ll let you know by February 15.
If you’re still not totally clear on what happens at a Rails Girls workshop, take a look at their Shanghai workshop schedule here or check out the video below from their event in Helsinki.
