Shanghai Calling is movie about American expats falling in love in Shanghai. Yes, really. Plenty of cringe potential, but in the end it’s hard not to watch a movie that’s about your own exact life choices.
The movie fashions itself as an examination of the modern-day “American immigrant” phenomenon happening Shanghai. It was written and directed by Daniel Hsia (the guy behind this charming little documentary) and stars Daniel Henney, Eliza Coupe, Bill Paxton, Alan Ruck, Geng Le, and Zhu Zhu.
Seems there will be plenty of aw shucks Shanghai amateur errors (tea leaves, taxi troubles, and an embarrassing ayi moment!) but as long as the guy doesn’t start complaining about shoving, queuing, and spitting I guess we’ll give it a pass.
