Live Acoustic Rock & Blues @ Cotton Club
Every Thursday Australian singer-songwriter Dave Stone plays a set at Cotton Club, followed by Ginger Zheng and their house blues band. It’s all happening at one of Shanghai’s longest-standing jazz bars.

Androsace @ DClub
Androsace is kicking off a tour on Saturday, and they’re starting things off at DClub on Friday night, where they will play “the whole night” with Bigong Bijing. If you feel like playing yourself, they say you can bring your own stuff and help yourself to the stage!

Playful Warrior showcase @ YYT
Playful Warrior Records has organized a night of metal and hardcore at Yuyintang on Friday. Here’s the ridiculously long lineup: Hidden Agenda (metalcore), MonkeyShine (metalcore & punk), Broken Promises (metalcore), Chaos Mind (hardcore) and guest band Before the Daylight (post-hardcore).

Rock Awards Show @ MAO
MAO Livehouse is putting on their “1st Annual Rock Awards Show”, a night to celebrate specifically the rock that has appeared on their stage over the past year. They’ll hand out 20 awards including “Best New Shanghai Artist”, “Best Overseas Artist” and “Best Female/Male Performer” (but again, it appears this is just among artists that have played at MAO? Correct me if I’m wrong.) Regardless of the bizarre premise, let’s just appreciate that a decent concert is happening: Second Hand Rose (二手玫瑰), Su Yang (苏阳) and Convenience Store (便利商店) are all playing.
120RMB, 100RMB presale // 8pm // MAO Livehouse // 3/F, 308 Chongqing Nan Lu, near Jianguo Zhong Lu 3/F (重庆南路308号 近建国中号)
Diane Schuur @ Cin Cin Bar
The Peace Hotel is reopening Cin Cin this weekend, their smart Art Deco bar on the mezzanine level, and to celebrate they’re welcoming two-time Grammy winner Diane Schuur. The jazz singer and pianist has headlined Carnegie Hall and the White House, and played with greats like Quincy Jones, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder and B.B. King. The concert is free, so dress nice and go early!
Free entry // 6pm to 9pm // Cin Cin // Fairmont Peace Hotel, Mezzanine 20 Nanjing Dong Lu, near Zhongshan Dong Yi Lu (南京东路20号, 近中山东一路)
New Shanghai Rock Music Show @ YYT
It’s not the most elegantly-named concert ever to grace Shanghai, nor will it be the most elegant 2pm
drinking session soiree we plan to ever experience, but regardless it sounds like a lot of fun. An absolutely perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon. They’re making it early so that students and people who live out in the sticks can actually manage the commute at a decent hour. Bands on the line up are Biubiu, Death to Giant, and The Riot Experience.
10RMB // 2pm // Yuyintang // 851 Kaixuan Lu, by Yan’an Xi Lu (凯旋路851号, 近延安西路口)
Acoustic Alchemy @ MAO Liveouse
If you’re a jazz fan then you’ll be happy to hear that after catching Diane Schuur on Saturday, you can head over to MAO on Sunday to see Grammy-nominated Acoustic Alchemy. They play contemporary instrumental and smooth jazz. Presale tickets on Smart Shanghai are sold out, so you’ll have to try your luck at the door. No time listed on this thing, and MAO doesn’t even have it on their site so we’re stumped!
180RMB presale // MAO Livehouse // 3/F, 308 Chongqing Nan Lu, near Jianguo Zhong Lu 3/F (重庆南路308号 近建国中号)
