Ah, the glut of netizens and their endless repostings and comments. With nearly as many Weibo users as there are Americans, the social media platform is receiving more attention than ever before.
However, questions remain as to whether or not social media in China will continue to be the thriving fountain of free information that it’s been up to this point.
Regardless of whether or not real name registration policies have a chilling effect for online discourse, Weibo in China has already earned a future chapter in the long history of the China’s struggle with reform and free information, as the Democracy Wall and the Hundred Flowers Campaign were in eras before this one.
