“1… 2… 3… CHARGE!!”
We’re recommending you avoid the Metro at all costs this weekend as record breaking usage has been predicted due to the May Day / Labour Day holiday. 7.4 million people are expected to clog up the transport system today, with every single one of them threatening to breathe directly into your face from a distance of 2cm if you add to their numbers. From Shanghai Daily:
The local transport watchdog said yesterday that trends indicated that total subway turnover today and on Saturday would reach a record-breaking 7.4 million people. The latest record high fell last Friday when more than 7.2 million people traveled on the subway. The daily average has risen to more than 6.3 million.
Local railway stations will receive 30 percent more passengers than usual and are also feared to suffer “extreme congestion” this weekend, the watchdog said.
Traffic congestion is also expected throughout the city’s road network, so make sure you leave early if you’re planning to get a taxi anywhere over the next couple of days. And for those of you that are thinking of disregarding our metro advice, just take another look at the picture above. Don’t do it!
