Shanghaiist reader Fiona Reilly writes in to warn us of a “Korean” Snow White / Cinderella kissing scam artist. Has anyone else heard of this guy?
You may already know of this scammer but now know of four foreign women targeted (usually in subway stations, also City Shop) by this creepy “Korean” student, including myself today. He claims you resemble either Cinderella or Snow White then swiftly plants a kiss before you know what’s happening. No theft in any of these cases, so presumably he does it for kicks. It would be good to alert other women about this.
Today’s incident was at People’s Square subway station. Approached by a young man who claimed to be a Korean student studying English.
“Good morning” he said. “You are very beautiful. Looking like Snow White.” I denied any resemblance to said attractive young Disney character, particularly as I was dressed head to toe in black and had 4 hours sleep the night before and no coffee.
At which point he kissed me with a big smacker on the cheek, took my photo and claimed I was his “Snow White lovely English teacher”. Still unsure if he was unhinged or just really, really short-sighted.
