After leaving Beijing’s Capital Airport Saturday evening with his wife and two children, blind dissident and self-taught lawyer Chen Guangcheng has touched down at Newark-Liberty International Airport and headed straight for New York University.
Outside the university, Chen spoke to an excited gaggle of media and members of the public. “In seven years, I’ve not had a weekend’s rest,” he said. “Now that I’m here, I hope to recuperate for what I haven’t been able to in the past seven years, both in body and spirit.”
Chen and his family will live in NYU’s faculty residential complex, Washington Square Village, while he attends NYU as a special student in law, working with professors Jerome Cohen and Frank Upham.
