World Cup-winning coach Marcello Lippi during a Guangzhou Evergrande team practice session last week.
Just days after signing former Italian national team head coach Marcello Lippi, Guangzhou Evergrande, who currently sit atop the CSL standings, kept their hot streak alive by defeating Qingdao Jonoon last night 1-0.
Lippi, who led Italy to a World Cup victory in 2006, signed a 2 1/2 year contract with the club last Thursday. Neither Lippi nor team boss Xu Jiayuan would disclose his salary, but a newspaper in Milan reported that it was roughly 10 million Euros.
Looks like drama-ridden Shanghai Shenhua should take a leaf (or ten) out of Evergrande’s book.
