Lin Jun from Wuhan, China was a student at Concordia University.
An incredible, grisly tale from across the pond today. A 33-year-old man from Wuhan has been chopped to death in Montreal, Canada and his dismembered body parts sent to at least two political parties in Ottawa. A 10 minute video clip of the cold-blooded murder of Lin Jun, who arrived in Montreal in July 2011 to study at Concordia University, later surfaced on the internet, showing the victim being stabbed multiple times with an ice-pick, dismembered, sexually abused, and his flesh eaten with a fork and knife.
A global manhunt is now on for the killer, Luka Rocco Magnotta, a 29-year-old male escort, stripper, and actor who has appeared in both gay and straight porn productions. Interpol has issued a Red Notice in its 190 member countries for the fugitive, also known by his birth name Eric Clinton Newman, and aliases Vladimir Romanov and Mattia Del Santo.
Lin’s foot arrived in a blood-soaked package sent to the Conservative Party that was opened by Jenni Bryne, a top political adviser to Prime Minister Stephen Harper. “It was such a horrible odour, said Conservative Party spokesman Fred DeLorey who was there when Bryne opened the package, “I’m sure many of us will not forget it.”
Lin’s severed hand was addressed to the Liberal Party and intercepted by Ottawa Police in a mail processing facility. His decomposing torso was found by a janitor in a suitcase dumped at a garbage pile near Magnotta’s apartment in Montreal.
Police are unsure of the relationship between the two men, but it is likely that they were romantically linked.
An Interpol Red Notice has been issued for Luka Rocco Magnotta
Canadian police also say Magnotta fled to Paris on the same day of the killing. His currentt whereabouts are unknown — he could be somewhere else in Europe, or he could have already returned to Canada under another identity, wearing wigs and disguises.
Meanwhile, in the United Kingdom, the British tabloid The Sun has painted a grisly portrait of the murder suspect. In December, journalists from the paper reached out to him when his name emerged in connection with a video of a kitten being fed to a python, and another of a cat being suffocated. Magnotta then showed up unannounced at the office to deny the kitty torture.
Reporter Alex West says Magnotta’s “disturbed, disturbing, disgusting” look in his eyes left him shaken. And it continues to leave him shaken because of an email that arrived two days after his encounter with Magnotta. West writes of the email:
It described how the killer planned to move on from killing animals to human victims.
And I was chilled to realise it referred to me. The email described in lurid, horrifying detail the disgusting things he wanted to do to me — acts of the darkest sexual and violent nature.
The words are too vile to repeat. I can still recall my revulsion when I read these crazed threats.
The twisted author used the name of Moors murders victim John Kilbride as an email address. But I suspected it came from Magnotta.
In his sick reference to me, the writer said: “You have some very sexy journalists at your paper.
“I have one I’m very keen on now. He was very sexy.”
He then gloatingly described his warped sexual fantasies.
The sender, who described himself as a “genius”, signed off by saying: “You know, the fun part of all this is watching millions of people get angry and frustrated because they can’t catch me.
“It’s fun watching people work so hard gathering all the evidence, then not being able to name me or catch me.
“You see, I always win. I always hold the trump card and I will continue to make more movies.
“London is wonderful because all the people are so stupid. It’s easy.
“So, I have to disappear for a while, until people quit bothering me. But next time you hear from me it will be in a movie I am producing that will have some humans in it, not just pussies.
The reporter then warned Met Police of the potential murderer but for some reason, they dropped the case because it was “out of their jurisdiction”.
Similar attempts made by at least one person to tip off the police in Canada were also rebuffed:
An American lawyer said he alerted Toronto Police Sunday to the gruesome online video of an apparent murder, but his tip was dismissed. Online sleuths had already speculated that Mr. Magnotta, infamous for the kitten video, was the killer in the snuff film.
“I told them there was a video online of the murder, and the murder had likely taken place in Canada. And that the perpetrator was certainly a Canadian, certainly from Toronto,” Roger Renville said. “His name was Luka Magnotta. And somebody needed to look at this.”
The person taking the call told him what he had seen “was probably fake, probably special effects” and declined Mr. Renville’s offer to email a link to the video. Const. Wendy Drummond confirmed that Toronto police did receive a call from Mr. Renville and said he was advised to call the Crime Stoppers tip line.
Meanwhile a Canadian transsexual who claims to have had a three-week affair with Magnotta says he once told her he would do “anything to be famous.” The two met when he was just 18 and working as a stripper. Via City News Toronto:
“I first met him as Angel, but then he told me his real name is Luka and he also referred to himself as Rocco,” she said.
“He was my very first lover after I started living as a transsexual,” she claimed.
Arsenault called Magnotta “very manipulative” and a “pathological liar.”
She also said he would make disturbing statements when intoxicated — words that are even more chilling in light of allegations that he killed cats and stabbed a man to death in Montreal before dismembering the body and mailing the victim’s body parts.
“He would joke about killing animals. He would joke about killing people, that he wanted to kill his family,” she recalled.
Arsenault also said Magnotta used methamphetamine, was fascinated with James Dean and Madonna, and would punch himself in the head while showering.
“He said, ‘I’m afraid when you look in my eyes…that you’ll see that there’s nothing inside of me.’ ”
“To me he was a f****d up kid.”
The National Post has a highly graphic and chiling description of the video of the killing of Lin Jun:
Best Gore, the website showing the alleged Montreal attack, describes itself as a “reality news website” that posts real videos to show people the “uncensored truth.”
“They are as real as they get and I believe people have the right to know the truth,” the website reads.
The nearly 11-minute video purports to show Mr. Magnotta attacking a naked man, who is tied to a bed frame, with both an ice pick and a kitchen knife, according to the description. The victim is stabbed, has his throat slashed and is later decapitated and dismembered.
The video, filmed in a dimly lit room, also shows the killer playing with his victim’s limbs and using one of them to masturbate. The attacker later performs a sex act on the dismembered, decapitated corpse. He also uses a knife and fork to slice a piece of fatty flesh from the victim’s rear, and then brings in a dog to eat the purported corpse.
The video was posted on Best Gore May 25, but it is unclear when, or where, it was filmed, although police have confirmed Magnotta’s Montreal apartment was a crime scene.
“1 Lunatic 1 Ice Pick is without a doubt the sickest thing you will have ever seen in your entire life,” Best Gore writes.
“It is a sad reminder that things far worse than any of us would ever imagine really take place in our neighborhoods.”
At the end of the video, a photo is shown of a person dressed in a purple hooded jacket or sweater, leaning over while holding what appears to be an ice pick. His or her face is mostly obscured – the only details that can be made out are that the individual has light skin and brown, cheekbone-length hair.
The person is standing in front of a poster of the movie Casablanca.
“Thorough investigation by the Best Gore community [led] to an assumption that the 1 Lunatic 1 Ice Pick perpetrator could be a renowned cat killer and internet attention whore Luka Magnotta,” the website reads.
A former neighbour of Magnotta speaks up, on AP:
Derek MacKinnon, a former resident of the building where Magnotta lived, said he was the only person Magnotta would speak to in the building. MacKinnon identified himself as an actor who played a serial killer in the 1980 horror film “Terror Train.”
“I was a killer who killed 11 people in this film, so he was rather interested in my career versus his,” MacKinnon said. “It was like a quick conversation, not like anything big. And knowing that we were both gay, I think that’s probably where he had the connection with me because he was extremely cold, standoffish, wouldn’t talk to anybody, but he would stop for a sec to say something to me, and I think that he felt there was a kindred spirit or something between the two of us.”
He said Magnotta “was always well groomed” until the last time MacKinnon saw him, on May 25. He said Magnotta was having “a bad hair day.”
“It was red, and he normally is dark,” MacKinnon said. “It looked like a really bad wig.”
