Shortly after gaining the acquaintance of Chinese actress Li Bingbing at the recent Cannes Film Festival, a very excited (and apparently smitten) Brett Ratner, director of Rush Hour and The Family Man and producer of Prison Break took to where else but Sina Weibo to continue flirting with her. He uploaded the above picture of them taken at the festival, but mistakenly identified her as a rival actress with a similar name (!!!). In a comment accompanying the picture, Ratner blurted, “I want Fan Bingbing to be in one of my films or at least marry me?”
The booboo soon attracted the attention of the fans of both actresses as the picture went viral on Sina Weibo. One user joked, “I think it would be much easier to get her for your next production than to marry her, especially when you’ve got her name wrong.”
A thoroughly embarrassed Ratner later corrected himself and apologised. “Please excuse my mistake! This is the one and only Li Bingbing!!” he said. “My future muse and hopefully wife! My apologies to all her fans!”
Both posts have since been deleted from Ratner’s Weibo profile but the blunder appears to have won him quite a few new fans. Ratner now boasts some 525,000 followers on Sina Weibo.
