Woo hoo! Didier Drogba is finally coming to Shanghai.
After months (and months) of speculation, Didier Drogba finally confirmed on his website yesterday that he’ll be playing for Shenhua. He’ll join former Chelsea teammate Nicolas Anelka here in Shanghai early next month.
The move comes just one month after the 34-year-old Ivorian striker led Chelsea to a victory in the European Champions League final.
No official word yet on how much he’ll be making, but the two-and-a-half year contract is reportedly worth around $300,000 a week. That would make Drogba the highest-paid player in the CSL.

According to ESPN, he was also approached by Al Wasl of the United Arab Emirates, which is currently coached by Diego Maradona.
Shenhua owner Zhu Jun flew out to the Ivory Coast earlier this week to make the deal final. Yesterday afternoon, Zhu posted a photo of the newly-signed player holding up his Shenhua jersey to his Weibo.
But will Drogba’s signing be enough to solve the squad’s woes? Guess we’ll find out when Drogba makes his big debut on July 14 against Beijing Guo’An at Hongkou Stadium.
