Sugar and Alfie: Ideal Canine-Feline Companions
Who Are We?
We are Sugar, a 5-month old pup as sweet as her namesake, and Alfie, a handsome 3-legged brown tabby cat. We’re best mates who love cuddling with each other as much as we love attention from our foster mom.
Sugar was born to a rescued dog and weaned in a happy and healthy home before moving to SCAA foster care. Alfie was rescued from a university campus and suffering from a terrible leg injury – part of his back leg was severed. His leg was cleanly amputated and he’s recovered nicely. Alfie may have 3 legs, but nothing slows him down and interferes with his quest to be the purrfect cat companion.
Why We Make Great Pets!
We Bring Together the Best of Both Worlds: Are you a dog AND cat person? Are you one and your partner/spouse the other? Many people struggle with introducing a new cat to a dog household and vice versa. Struggle no more with an instant pair of canine-feline companions like Sugar and Alfie.
This canine-feline pair made fast friends when they were introduced to each other nearly two months ago. They spend their time jostling over who gets to flop on top of the other and use each other as pet pillows at every opportunity.
While it takes Alfie a few days and some coaxing to make friends with new people, once he trusts you, he is best described as “quite demanding for attention”. He loves head rubs and follows his foster mom around the house, up and down stairs, as though he’s worried he’ll be abandoned again. Alfie will exchange treats for chin scratches and head rubs every chance he gets. Temptations treats live up to their labeling with Alfie.
Sugar is an eager-to-please pup who easily wins over everyone she meets with her cute looks and gentle demeanor. She can be shy around strangers outside, but at home, she trusts her caregivers to introduce her only to nice people and takes 10 minutes to befriend you. She is doing well with house-training and her foster mom is pleased to report very few accidents in the house. A teething puppy, if Sugar doesn’t have her toys handy, she’ll gladly turn to shoes. She’s a pup who will inspire your family to pick up after themselves.
Our Excellent Health: Like all SCAA foster animals, Sugar and Alfie have received the best medical care possible from SCAA’s vet partner, PAW. Alfie’s hind leg amputation was a success and he’s now a happier and pain-free pet. Alfie is treated for fleas (Revolution) and worms (Milbemax), and has been fully vaccinated (Tri-Cat + Rabies) and is neutered.
Sugar is treated for fleas (Revolution) and worms (Drontal) and is fully vaccinated (Nobivac DHPPi, Leptospirosis + Rabies). Sugar is due for spaying soon. If young animals are adopted before they’re ready for surgery, SCAA subsidizes 50% of the cost at PAW for adopters.
Sugar and Alfie make a perfect pair of pets for people looking for the best of the cat and the dog world. Both Sugar and Alfie also make ideal second pets. Alfie is a most flexible cat, welcoming gentle dogs and social cats into his circle of friends easily. Sugar thrives on companionship from two and four (or three!) legged friends. Either one is an ideal pet for animal lovers with enough time to train them, entertain them and socialize with them. Sugar and Alfie are well suited to a home with older children.
