Weibo is all abuzz with a case that bears striking similarity with the “My father is Li Gang” saga of 2010. The son of a senior official at the Jingjiang Public Security Bureau in Jiangsu Province has been caught on security camera stabbing a woman with a knife and kicking her. Neighbours who rushed in to stop him said he attacked the woman all the while shouting “My family runs the public security bureau!”
The 31-year-old suspect Lu Jianbo is himself a civil servant, employed by the government of a neighbouring town. His father, Lu Shengmin, is in charge of administration, finance and infrastructure at the Jingjiang PSB.
The victim, a woman by the name of Zang Hongmei, was said to have fainted following the attack. She is now recovering at the local hospital after surgery.
What transpired before the attack, according to the Global Times:
According to an initial investigation, Lu’s mother, surnamed Miao, became involved in an altercation with her neighbor, Zang, following a quarrel between the two around 7:30 pm inside the grounds of their apartment compound.
During the scuffle, Miao was allegedly hit on the head by a brick thrown by Zang. When Lu arrived home and saw his mother’s injuries, he grabbed a knife and attacked Zang, said police.
Zang’s husband explained to local media that the neighbors Miao and Zang have had a long-standing dispute. “Lu’s family has taken over public green space and has been erecting illegal structures for a long time and many residents have called the mayor’s hotline to complain.”
