Midweek Music Preview is a rundown of all the events happening on stages across Shanghai. On the docket this week we have acclaimed harpist Marie-Pierre Langlamet for the fans of classical music, plus Adam Tam for the Cantopop lovers. We have punk pop, noise, nu metal, and garage rock made in Beijing, Shanghai and even Japan. Oh yeah, and a nationwide competition to nominate the official representant for the Asian Beat finale in Singapore finds it’s showdown at MAO Livehouse on Sunday. Marie-Pierre Langlamet originally decided to learn how to play a fairly rare instrument just because the piano class was already full – only to become a multiple award-winning master harpist. Mme. Langlamet is member of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra .

Another cast member of Beijing’s vibrant music scene, Street Kills Strange Animals is actually signed to the same indie label (Modern Sky) as New Pants. A Friday night head-to-head rock battle of two family members, MAO vs. Yuyintang. You decide. The noisy trio have their debut LP in the sleeves and will be supported by Shanghai-based bands Rainbow Danger Club and X is Y.

The 10 Chinese finalists for the Asian-wide music contest will gather for the last, decisive battle this Sunday.
