A scantily clad Chinese man in his 50s became the most thrilling attraction at the Changchun World Sculpture Park in Jilin province a few days ago when he showed up au naturel with a home-made “chastity belt” barely covering his crotch. Mr. Liu was not one of the official exhibits.
According to Chinese media reports, Liu, an inventor from the South, is on a quest to find a new wife from the Northeast, after being divorced for 8 years now. The chastity belt, being his own invention, is intended to convince his future wife of his faithfulness. Would it be a stronger self-statement about a man’s personality if a chastity belt was not required in the first place to guarantee loyalty?
Although we wonder what happens once the “snaky beast” is released from its cage, we have to give Liu credit for originality. Courting women in a country where the birth sex ratio is almost 120 males to 100 females is no easy task. Many Chinese men rely on the classic house, BMW, bank account formula, so it is certainly refreshing to witness a new strategy.
We’d all love to know what the ingenious invention looks like, but the most exciting part of the picture is unfortunately blurred.
For now, here’s what a 1911 patent design of a chastity belt looks like. You decide if this strategy for finding a partner will work for you.
