Social Media Week Shanghai @ JMSC Shanghai Centre
“Social Media Week is the world’s largest integrated social media conference held simultaneously in over twenty cities throughout the globe over a five day period, exploring the social, cultural and economic impact of social media. Considering that Chinese internet users are more likely to be connected through social media than any other population on earth, this is a momentous occasion both for the host city of Shanghai and for the Social Media Week conference.” Most topics of the seminars on the schedule spin around social media as PR and marketing channels, branding and crisis control. But social media has indeed also taken over the important role of quickly spreading news and footage especially in those countries with regulated newsmedia and internet censorship, thus making it the enfant terrible of the web for some governments. It remains to be seen if this will also be considered in the speeches. Check the website for details.

Sub-Cinema presents “Machine Girl” @ DADA
Pretty, smart and popular Japanese babe Ami is your typical girl next door. Except for the fact that her arm is a weapon of mass destruction. After a tragic family incident that leads to Ami’s arm being chopped off by some revengeful ninja-yakuzas, Ami does what every reasonable school girl would do: She gets her missing limp replaced with tools of death. And then slaughters the crap out of those who thought they could fxxx with her. Note: Never piss off the wrong one, because she may turn out not to be that kind of girl. Japanese with English subtitles.

Maroon 5 After Show Party @ The Apartment
Right after the Maroon 5 concert in the Mercedes-Benz Arena, you can head over to the Apartment for the official after show party if you don’t wanna call it a night yet. The boys (if they should go, that is) will probably be hidden away from the masses in a VIP room, but who knows, maybe you’re lucky and get a glimpse?!

Jin Xing Dance Theatre: The China Project @ Shanghai Oriental Art Centre
The dance ensemble under the lead of award-winning founder and director Jin Xing consists of 15 dancers representing different Chinese regions and minorities. Founded as the first independent contemporary dance ensemble of China, the highly influential Jin Xing Dance Theatre performed extensively in Asia, America and many European countries. The show “The China Project has been developed by Jin Xing Dance Theatre and Liquid Loft at the Shanghai Oriental Arts Center. The performance reconstructs sets of various zones of transgression, crossing frontiers of communication conflicts and their encoding. Gender roles, societal rules, the design of life and its surfaces become evident on the body. A very personal story, the design of being of Jin Xing: former colonel in the Chinese military, decorated as best dancer in China, successful choreographer, film actress and singer… Her transition from man to woman has brought forth the underlying, essential image of beauty, permeating society’s surface.”
Two shows on Wednesday and Thursday night (Sep 26-27).
