On September 13, the first day of the poll, the Romney campaign released the ad, “Failing American Workers,” which accuses Obama of failing to keep China from increasing its manufacturing jobs during a period in which manufacturing jobs in the U.S. were in decline. Romney says: “It is time we stand up to the cheaters, and protect jobs for the American people.” On September 15th, the ad, “The Romney Plan” starts with Romney saying: “Trade has to work for America. That means cracking down on cheaters like China and opening new markets.”
Ever since those ads began to run, Romney has been losing ground and the President’s rating on his handling of the economy has been on the rise!
The reason: Romney’s attack on China as a currency manipulator indicates he will be for an even weaker dollar than President Obama. And, there is nothing that threatens the middle class more than a decline in the value of the dollar.
Kadlec frames Romney’s position as a move to the “left”, rather than say, rank opportunism and a willingness to say just about anything to get elected, but nevertheless, when even supporters of Herman Cain’s 9-9-9 tax plan are criticizing your economic plans for being too crazy, you know you’ve got problems.
Oh, and remember that blind trust that was investing in China? Well those investments were helping to fund Iran’s nuclear program:
The trust Romney invested in a Chinese oil company, CNOOC Ltd., a company that works with Iran and helps them develop their oil and gas industry. Romney says that he has no way of knowing where his dollars are invested and also stated that the trust has dumped its’ shares in CNOOC Ltd. CNOOC has invested $16 billion in one project and $3.5 billion in a different project. Iran uses revenues from the oil and gas industry to fund its nuclear program as well as their military, which poses a threat to Israel.
Romney accused Ted Kennedy for using what he called an “age old ruse” by sidestepping investment issues pertaining to “blind trust” accounts in 1994. In his attacks on Kennedy, Romney said, “you can tell the trustee what it can and cannot do, you give a blind trust rules”.
