Kitera hopes to win Beijing over with his ‘invisible ball’ juggling routine

And the position of Japanese Ambassador to China goes to… The only man on the planet willing to do it! Assistant Chief Cabinet Secretary Masato Kitera, a man who has never served in any important roles related to China and (by taking this post) clearly makes poor career decisions.
Since his predecessor Uichiro Niwa was effectively fired for correctly pointing out that China wouldn’t be happy if Japan purchased the disputed Senkaku/Diaoyu Islands, Japan’s cabinet has struggled to find a new punchbag to send to China.
Their first choice, Shinichi Nishimiya, lasted three days in the position before succumbing to a fatal heart attack and a number of candidates approached since then have unsurprisingly turned down the world’s worst job offer.
After making their way down what must have been a very long list, the cabinet came to the name Masato Kitera, whose appointment is expected to be announced soon.
So the man chosen to maintain peaceful relations between two of the most powerful nations on earth during a period of intense mistrust and hostility is clearly not considered to be the best man for the job, but the only man willing to do it.
