Pencil This In is all the things you’d want to do this Monday through Thursday. This week we have drink specials for all the brave teachers out there to soothe the pain of a day’s work. There’s a charity event at Xijiao West Garden Villas, with which you can support awesome projects for Chinese orphans and other deprived members of society. Dada shows another scary movie to set the mood for Halloween, and the day after the night market returns! Lonely hearts get a chance to look out for matches at a singles party at Cotton’s, and girls who’d prefer to drink away the loneliness are encouraged to head over to Amber for free bottles of wine. Peace out. Read on for all the details, or check out our calendar for more!
Open Mic Monday @ Windows Scoreboard
It would be hard to imagine Shanghai nightlife without one of the various iterations of the Windows family. The oldest family member, Windows Scoreboard, holds an open mic night every Monday. Jammers, singers, sirens, musicians, noisemakers: get together! As usual, there will be cheap cheap drinks and pub food.

Outdoor Charity Sale @ Xijiao West Garden Villas
Go shopping for a good cause and support the great work of A Pleines Mains, a charity organization that supports the projects of several foundations in China. They sell clothes at 10 RMB, coats at 30 RMB, winter clothes, babies and children accessories to raise money for donations. The profit goes to support projects such as Ying Shang, Bethel, Starfish Orphanages and lepers from South China. All in all, APM was able to support more than 30 projects APM in 2011, and more than 2000 deprived individuals, so take the chance to make those numbers go even higher! In case it rains, the event will be postponed to 23 October.

Sub-Cinema: Demons @ DADA
In the spooky month of October, it’s all about horror at Sub-Cinema. Rumours have it that it might have something to do with that heretical holiday coming up. This week they have an Italian horror movie from 1985: Demons (Dèmoni), written and produced by the maestro of giallo, Dario Argento. University student Cheryl is stalked by a mysterious, masked man in the Berlin Subway. And no, you guessed wrong! He doesn’t wanna grope her or worse, he simply offers her tickets to a free lunch with a movie screening at a big theater. Because that’s what stalkers in Berlin usually do when they meet charming young gals. So Cheryl pushes her friend to go with her, and soon it turns out that it was a rather shitty idea to spend the afternoon like this. The unsuspecting audience is no the only one who came for luncheon, but someone else who’s into possessing, killing and munching raw flesh. And the longer we think about it, the more bizarre the scenario sounds: You go to Dada to get free popcorn and a free screening of a horror movie about folks who go to a Demon-infested theater to get free lunch and screening of a grisly horror movie. Beat that!
