Spanish authorities have announced the arrest of 60 people in multiple raids on Chinese crime organisations across the country.
Hundreds of officers were involved in raids in Madrid and Barcelona, with warrants to search 120 properties belonging to those suspected of laundering money from prostitution and extortion. “The national police is carrying out a major operation against money-laundering and other crimes linked to criminal networks of Chinese origin in various provinces of Spain,” said Spanish authorities in an official statement.
Among those arrested in the raid was pornstar Nacho Vidal, “one of the most popular and hard-working men on the hardcore scene”. Vidal ran a company that was suspected of taking part in money-laundering.
The majority of suspects are of Chinese origin, operating out of the Cobo Calleja trading estate in Madrid, the biggest Chinese wholesale estate in Europe. A local councillor from the district has also been arrested.
