Good news everyone! Soon you’ll be able to take the kids to Xinjiang to celebrate the People’s Republic of China being one of eight countries to possess a bomb capable of killing millions of people in one go! China whoo!
About 6m yuan ($960,000, £595,000) will be spent making the remote Malan base [where China detonated its first atomic bomb in 1964] in Xinjiang region tourist-friendly, an official told Xinhua news agency.
Visitors will be able to see scientists’ laboratories and a 300-metre tunnel used for air strikes.
Officials say the base at Malan will be converted into a “red tourism site”, joining other attractions such as the former revolutionary base in Yan’an where tourists can re-enact the Chinese Civil War.
