Gaffe prone possible communist CY Leung‘s approval ratings have had a boost thanks to his handling of the Lamma Island Ferry Disaster, during which Leung performed vital tasks like standing around being the Chief Executive and taking a CCP official to a press conference.
Leung edged up 3.2 points in the fortnightly poll conducted by the University of Hong Kong.
The HKU public opinion programme poll showed the chief executive recorded 49.2 points on a scale of 0 to 100 after the deadly October 1 ferry collision in which 39 were killed. He directed the rescue operation and visited the injured in hospital.
His popularity has been languishing below 50 since not long after he took office on July 1.
Note, the margin of error on this survey is plus or minus 4 points, so Leung may not have had any boost whatsoever. Not that that matters, because Hong Kong isn’t a real democracy.
