In last night’s President Town Hall Debate, Mitt Romney, while not expounding the benefits of binders full of women, took a moment to reiterate that he will label China a currency manipulator on “Day 1” of his presidency.
[China] has been a currency manipulator for years and years and years, and the President has a regular opportunity to label them as a currency manipulator but refuses to do so. On day one, I will label China a currency manipulator, which will allow me as President to be able to put in place if necessary tariffs where I believe they are taking unfair advantage of our manufacturers.
Anthony Tao at Beijing Cream does a good job of dismantling Governor Romney’s hysterics about Chinese currency manipulation. As conservative think-tank the Heritage Foundation points out, “the PRC barely matters to our unemployment rate”.
