It’s almost a cliche that once anyone makes serious bank in China they start making plans to leave China. The US has always been the traditional option, but green cards are kind of a pain in the ass and the TSA are only a step away from anally probing people as they arrive in the country.
Lingling Wei at China Real Time reports that Cyprus is the new darling of the Chinese rich:
Why Cyprus? While mild weather, rich history and a nice location in the Eastern Mediterranean might make the tiny island nation an attractive place to live, the main appeal is the incredibly low bar it sets for immigration: Anyone who spends €300,000, or roughly $393,000, on a piece of property on the island automatically becomes eligible for permanent European Union residency.
So for the price of a small apartment in Shanghai, you can buy a property in Cyprus, get permanent residency and then move anywhere in Europe.
