Now this is what we call variety! This weekend certainly does not lack for a range of different things to do: You can shop for affordable (disclaimer: not a guarantee) art, and watch a free movie at the Geisha. There are cool parties at Shelter, Dada and Lune. Lola celebrates their second anniversary with a double bash, and Virgo celebrates birth itself. Also don’t forget it’s the weekend of the JZ Festival 2012, and the Shanghai International Beer Festival takes place for the first time ever. Shanghai International Beer Festival @ Wharf 1846
It is what the name hints at: Your chance to drink through umpteen kinds of international beer brews. All in total there will be 40 booths offering 60 something beers, and to make it complete, there will be food giveaways and lucky draws as well. And what would a proper festival be without music and performances? Rest assured that numerous members of the Shanghaiist editorial team will be in attendance. The entrance fee includes one free beer. Friday till Sunday.

Virgo Grand Opening @ Virgo / The Cool Docks
Virgo is the newest addition to the trendy Cool Docks neighbourhood. Free entry, free welcome drink, and free pizza all night long – they certainly don’t miss out on the opportunity to woo with goodies for the big zero birthday party. There will be three DJs playing rock, funk and house music to please all kinds of tastes in the two-floor dancefloor lounge.

Two Years Anniversary Party @ Lola
Hard to believe that the beauty that successfully heated up Yongjia Lu has already reached such a reputable age. For Friday, they’ve booked Troy Pierce from the US of A, and on Saturday, Chris Carrier from France will take care of your hearing organs.

Mongol Arts & Culture Festival @ Yuyintang
Yuyintang hosts the first Mongolian culture festival with support from the Mongolian embassy. Discover Mongolian folk and rock music acts, an art exhibition with photos, film, paintings and craft, and enjoy authentic Mongolian food on top!

JZ Festival 2012 @ Expo Site
Shanghai’s longest-running music festival is an incredible highlight for all lovers of jazz music. The two festival days are crammed with a strong lineup that keeps you busy till late. And even after the festival closes for the day, you don’t have to call it a night but are invited to move on to the after parties at Wooden Box, JZ Club and On Stage, on both Saturday and Sunday!
