With all the Halloween hullabaloo going on, it’s easy to overlook the other cool stuff happening this weekend. So here’s the party-free Halloween Weekendist edition. It’s not completely Halloween-free though, but there are still some really awesome things happening that are absolutely monster- and masquerade-cleaned – promise! We have a charity book sale on Saturday, so do something for your brain and imagination and help those in need at the same time. Island6 opens a new exhibition, with fresh LED art, and on Sunday, the ZIG ZAG Soup Interactive Designer’s Fair kicks off: Buy designer stuff, watch performances and short film screenings and more! The Cat that Eats Diodes Exhibition Opening @ Island6
Island6, the gallery where pictures and stories come alive through animated and sometimes even interactive LED art, opens a new exhibition this weekend. We believe it is best to let the LED frames speak for themselves, but here’s what Island6 has to say about the exhibition: “The Cat that Eats Diodes celebrates the art collective’s six-year love affair with all that resonate with electricity and life. From animated goldfish to lasercut trees, the story of our world is retold in Technicolour glory through LED, video, photography and contemporary sculpture. Re-appropriating iconic scenes from Shanghai and Hong Kong, Liu Dao brings together the essence of two metropolises that are impelled by technology, but inspired by life.” Vernissage from 5-8pm. The exhibition runs until December 27, 2012.
Free // 5-8pm // 50 Moganshan Lu, Bld 6, 2/F, near Changhua Lu and Xi Suzhou Lu, behind Aomen Lu (六岛, 莫干山路50号6号楼2楼, 近昌化路和西苏州路)
Radical Design Week: Cross Cultural Visual Communication @ Glamour Bar
Radical Design Week is a ten days exhibition of future-oriented Finnish design and innovation, with talks and performances. So it’s actually not a week, but we assume Radical Design 10 Days just sounds too silly. Event host Glamour Bar will also offer a special menu inspired by Finnish cuisine, so this is your rare chance to try salmiakki souffle in Shanghai. This Saturday, Pan Jianfeng, the creative director of Radical Design Week, will talk about the thinking behind RDW’s innovative typography and the creation of visual communication that is understood and appreciated across cultures. RSVP here.
