There was uproar earlier this month when it was revealed that iPhone‘s with Apple‘s personal assistant Siri, newly fluent in Chinese, would happily direct users to brothels despite prostitution being illegal in China. Now it seems this feature has been disabled.
By the beginning of the week, Apple appeared to have acted and now, when asked about brothels, Siri replies with more diplomatic responses such as “There seems to have been a mistake” or “I didn’t find anybody by that name”.
At the time of publishing Apple had not responded to requests for a comment.
Apple is notoriously squeamish about all things sex. Steve Jobs once famously told a reporter that the iTunes Store offered users “freedom from porn“.
