It’s the grand weekend of the Shanghaiist Hairy Crab & Sex Museum Tour, but if you’re missing our orgasmic weekend getaway for whatever reason, we still don’t condemn you [Ed: well, not entirely]. We offer you other nice things to do until we are back on the radar with new stuff! Some people still don’t wanna let go of Halloween, and so we have a few more costume things going on here (including roller skate action). A true undead, that Halloween in Shanghai! But if your costume is finally screaming for the washing machine, you’ll find other options as well. Read on for the details! And if that’s still not enough, head over to our calendar for more.
Nightmare on Funk Street @ Minxing Roller Rink
We’ve seen quite a lot of surprisingly funny and original Halloween costumes this year, although some of them have proven to be rather bulky and uncomfortable and not exactly suitable for stunts on roller-skates. Doesn’t matter, it only adds to the fun. Put it on one more time, and show your moves to DJ tunes. The 50RMB entrance fee includes skates for rent and a free drink. You can also start getting tipsy at Perry’s and take a free shuttle bus from there at 9:15pm.
50RMB (before 10pm or in costume), 80RMB // Minxing Roller Rink // 2/F, 420 Yichuan Lu, near Ganquan Lu (宜川路420号2楼, 近甘泉路)
Ding Dong Disco Halloween Party @ O’Malley’s
After one week of Halloween events, this is probably the last of the spooky parties, and it’s a big finale for the pumpkin season, too! O’Malley’s throws another massive party, and this time, DJ Razor teams up with the bold Crowdpleaser from Switzerland, master of anything techno, disco and in between!
100RMB incl. 1 drink // 10pm // O’Malley’s // 42 Taojiang Lu, near Wulumuqi Lu (桃江路42号, 近乌鲁木齐路)
Old School Night @ Virgo
Friday nights at Virgo are all about rock oldies from the 80’s and 90’s, which somewhat fits to the warmly illuminated club at the Cool Docks. Drinks don’t hurt your wallet too much with standard mixes from 30RMB. We know you can have it cheaper with booze of obscure origin elsewhere in town, but if they keep the quality of what we got served at the opening party, it’s a very fair deal. And by the way, during November, drinks are buy one get one free till Midnight. Check it out!
Free // 10pm // Virgo // Laomatou Bldg 11, 505 Zhongshan Nan Lu, near Fuxing Dong Lu (老码头, 中山南路505号11栋, 近复兴东路)
The Ice @ Bar Rouge
Bund staple Bar Rouge sets the mood for the cold season with a frosty theme for the night: Frozen drinks, fire and ice, and a proper decoration to turn the place into a cold maze.
100RMB // 10pm // Bar Rouge // 7/F, 18 Zhongshan Dong Yi Lu, near Nanjing Dong Lu (中山东一路18号7楼, 近南京东路)
Electric East @ DADA
London and Shanghai-based D’n’B label Rakadank Records continues it’s riot at DADA. This time, Doshy and Conrank join Deadlock and HDB. You can also grab the Rakadank Vol. 1 mixtape for free!
Free // 10pm // No. 115 Xingfu Lu, near Fahuazhen Lu (幸福路115号, 近法华镇路)
Wonky Kong: Warrior One @ The Shelter

The Airplane Boys @ LUNE
After their kickass awesome Halloween party last Saturday, S.T.D. bring us the Airplane Boys from Canada with their hip hop and electro pop sounds. If you’ve read Midweek Music Preview, you already know that Kikuyu will sing there earlier that night as well.
60RMB // 10pm // Lune // 4F, No. 218 Xinle Lu, cross Donghu Lu (新乐路218号, 东湖路路口)
Minimalist @ DADA
Techno and minimal (surprise) with Milan J, Will A and Raz. Start the night with some board games, Jenga and fussball – and then dance till dawn!
Free // 9pm // No. 115 Xingfu Lu, near Fahuazhen Lu (幸福路115号, 近法华镇路)
Fiesta Loca @ Zapatas
Crowd, loud and cheesy – and yet there’s some undeniable charm in the mixture or bar top dancing tipsiness and tequila-pouring chicas. The picture of a bird mom mouthfeeding the young babies comes to mind when it’s “tequila time” and all the greedy mouths open up to catch some of the spilled liquid poison.
Free // 10pm // Zapatas // 5 Hengshan Lu, near Dongping Lu (衡山路5号, 近东平路)
Time Traveler @ Rockbund Art Museum
Time Traveler is a group exhibition with works of the Chinese artists Huang Yongping, Liu Jianhua, Sun Yuan, Peng Yu and Yan Lei.
“Time Traveler hopes to evoke visually spatial memories of the era of the Shanghai Museum (1933), presenting the overlap of two times and spaces — a natural history and culture muse of the 1930s and a contemporary art museum of 2012, reuniting the two spaces that stand at either end of this temporal axis. All the artists participating in this exhibition have in the past or are still currently working with classical material, dead forms and historical incidents as their mode of expression in their art. These works of art seem to return to the narrative approach to history of the era of the Shanghai Museum, which legitimated power to narrate history a traditional museum gains by virtue of possessing treasures. But the contemporary artists no longer obsess with the one and only historical discourse. They help us to reconstruct our cultural identity and mode of existence by employing artificial history and geography.” (Rockbund Art Museum). Exhibition is on until 9 December 9, 2012.
10am-21pm (18pm on Sunday) // Rockbund Art Museum // No. 20 Huqiu Lu, near Beijing Dong Lu (虎丘路20号， 近北京东路)
Margarita Brunch @ Cantina Agave
Some people say you should stop with what you started the night before. So if margaritas are your poison, jackpot. If you just wanna have a brunch, that’s fine, too. 125RMB and you can stuff yourself with Mexican goodies and margaritas from 11am-3pm.
125RMB // 11am-3pm // Cantina Agave // A Mansion, No. 291 Fumin Lu, near Changle Lu (富民路291号, 近长乐路)
Sunday Screening Club: Across the Universe @ The Geisha
Weekly Sunday afternoon film screening. This week with ‘Across the Universe’ featuring former Marilyn Manson love interest Evan Rachel Woods:
“Across The Universe is a fictional love story set in the 1960s amid the turbulent years of anti-war protest, the struggle for free speech and civil rights, mind exploration and rock and roll. At once gritty, whimsical and highly theatrical, the story moves from high schools and universities in Massachusetts, Princeton and Ohio to the Lower East Side of Manhattan, the Detroit riots, Vietnam and the dockyards of Liverpool. A combination of live action and animation, the film is paired with many songs by The Beatles that defined the time.” (IMDb)
Free // 3:30pm (movie starts at 4pm) // The Geisha // No. 390 Shanxi Nan Lu, near Fuxing Lu (陕西南路390号， 近复兴路)
