It’s weekend once more, and as usual, we come up with a selection of ideas for all flavours. Mr. Huang kicks off the night with techno at the Shelter, and if you prefer hip hop, you’ll be happy to hear that Hijack is back at Zeal with a two year anniversary party. If you didn’t stay over the night anyway, you can return to the Shelter again on Saturday to make some real noise at the massive impro afternoon gettogether. SOAC surprises once again with an unsual dance performance. And then there’s that creepy art exhibition for the lazy Sunday. And if that’s still not enough, head over to our calendar for more.
Mamma Mia! @ Vienna Café
Vienna Café shows the Hollywood adaption of the ABBA musical. We just assume that the story is not worth mentioning anyway but if you dig ABBA music, this will be one enjoyable night for you.
Free // Vienna Café // Lane 25 No. 2 Shaoxing Lu, near Shaanxi Nan Lu (绍兴路25弄2号, 近陕西南路)
Yellow @ The Shelter
THE Mr. Yellow himself, Ben Huang, is back at the Shelter with Zammo, Toma Cher and more! And Huang/Yellow stands for top-notch Shanghai techno and electro, so aficionados will get everything needed for a happy night with that kickass lineup!

Hip Hop Hijack 2 Year [email protected] Zeal
It’s Hip Hop Hiiiiiiiiiiiijack time again: HHHJ is Zeal’s series that brings acclaimed hip hop DJs to Shanghai. Yeah, of the kind that remembers there’s still other music than “I’m Sexy and I Know it” and “I Wanna Make You Sweat”. For the anniversary party, they’ve booked DJ Scratch from hip hop doyen EPMD, who’s also played on tours for various hip hop big names. Drop an email with your name here for half price door charge before midnight.
100 RMB // 10pm // Zeal // 6/F, 22 Zhongshan Dong Er Lu, near Xin Yongan Lu (中山东二路22号6楼，近新永安路)
Open Goats @ The Shelter
Your week’s been pretty f***ed up so far and you need to get rid of some aggressions but don’t have a punching ball at hand? Why don’t you try it with music therapy? The Shelter encourages you to use music instruments as scapegoats, so go down the tunnel and make some noise! Bring everything you find useful for some rhythm action, prepare your ears, and join the mass impro massacre.
Free // The Shelter 3pm // No. 5 Yongfu Lu, near Fuxing Xi Lu (永福路5号, 近复兴西路)
Random Dance: Entity @ Shanghai Oriental Art Center
“Entity” is the highly acclaimed conclusion of Wayne McGregor’s trilogy of futuristic tech-dance shows. His Random Dance company made itself a name for incorporating animation, digital film, 3D architecture, electronic sound and virtual dancers into the live choreography. The result is a visually stunning, if distorting dance performance. Shows on Friday and Saturday
80-580RMB // 7:15pm // Shanghai Oriental Art Center // 425 Dingxiang Lu (丁香路425号)
Skrillex @ G Plus
Uh, Skrillex and G Plus? An interesting mating, congratulations! The american producer will bring his lucky back full of razor-sharp electro-house and dubstep, so don’t simply overlook this one. Would be fun to see how the average lost Xintiandi/G+ visitor enjoys the sound, but they will probably already be scared away by the ultra hefty price tag on the door.
580RMB pre-sale, 680RMB door // Club G Plus // Xintiandi, 5/F, Lane 123 Xingye Lu, near Madang Lu 新天地南里广场5楼, 兴业路123弄, 近马当路)
Alain Delorme @ Magda Gallery
French artist Alain Delorme exhibits his series of “Litte Doll” photographs in this solo show at Magda gallery. Pictures of young children pepped up with photoshop might sound all like a weird and lame idea for an exhibition, but the result is absolutely disturbing. Alain Delorme performs “pixel surgery” on his little victims to bring them in line with modern ideals of beauty as publicized by pop culture and fashion magazines. Those creepy little miss beauty pageants in the USA come to mind. Bizarre and thought-provoking.
Free // 11am-6pm // Gallery Magda Danysz, 188 Linqing Road, near Pingliang Road
Latino Beats @ The Geisha
You want Latino music minus the numerous salsa dance class offerings of other bars, but open bar instead? Then the Geisha is your venue of choice on lame Sunday nights. 100 kuai get you a never-ending flow of margaritas and draft beer. No wait, actually it is ending: Geisha is responsible enought to dry the taps after midnight so you can still get up for work next morning.
100RMB free-flow margaritas + beer // 8pm till midnight // The Geisha // No. 390 Shanxi Nan Lu, near Fuxing Lu (陕西南路390号， 近复兴路)
