Photos showing KMT representatives eating lunch out of bento boxes during the 18th National Congress in Taiwan in 2009 have resurfaced on Chinese social networking sites last week.
Chinese netizens have been both mocking and praising Taiwan after photos from the 18th National Kuomintang (KMT) Congress in 2009 resurfaced on Chinese social media sites last week.
Ministry of Tofu reports that the photos, which show KMT representatives eating lunch from bento boxes and attending large group gatherings at a (most likely) rented venue with foldable chairs, prompted some web users to lash out at the mainland bureaucracy — after all, their 18th Congress looks nothing like the one going on here.
Others mocked Taiwan for being unable to throw a more lavish display for their government. “How poor and miserable!”, wrote Weibo user Liu Zhiming (@记者刘向南).
Here are some more images from the 18th National KMT Congress, which was held in Taipei on October 17, 2009.
And here’s a series of images with sarcastic captions on each photo. The snarkiness of the captions helped the photos pick up thousands of reblogs and comments.
