A photograph of this week’s Mail on Sunday has been making the rounds on Weibo, but has just been blocked by the censors (as of 8:54am today). The University of Hong Kong’s JMSC’s monitoring service, Weiboscope, shows that several reposts of the story were censored in the minutes that followed.
Xi Mingze, 20, daughter of new CPC General Secretary Xi Jinping, has been studying at Harvard University since 2010. Chinese bodyguards are reportedly protecting her 24/7.
The Mail on Sunday says that she’s paying attention to what’s going on back home:
Friends of Ms Xi say she devotes herself to her courses, which include political studies. She attended a discussion last spring about the political tumult convulsing China’s Communist Party, where she reportedly listened ‘intently’ from the top row of the lecture hall.
The Washington Post reported in May that friends described Xi as studious and discreet. She also joined a sorority, Kappa Alpha Theta, former home of fellow political scions Jenna and Barbara Bush.
