Cheers Burger markets itself as a healthy burger joint with wall slogans like “we don’t provide deep-fried food” but don’t let this deter you. You won’t find any tofu-hemp pucks sandwiched between 187-grain bread here, just some damn good burgers for a damn good price.
Spacious and fairly bare with plain wooden tables, green walls, a roomy upstairs, and a glass display like at a deli. Staff are attentive, speedy, and well-versed in the menu.
Burger types are as diverse as Baskin-Robbins ice cream flavors, ranging from the American Cheese Burger (33RMB) to the Lemon Glazed Fish Burger (33RMB) to the Mediterranean Lamb Burger. Fortunately none of the burgers are so Avant-Garde that style trumps flavor, and just about all hover between 30-40RMB; about 10RMB cheaper than Munchies burgers on average.
We recommend the American Cheese Burger, which has everything a burger experience should: torrents of juice splattering the plate upon the initial bite, moist beef patties, pulpy tomatoes, a buffer of greens between juice and bun, mustard and pickles for savory backup, and that plasticky, yellow slip of cheese.
If you’re not into beef, chow on the Mexican Spicy Chicken Burger (33RMB), a symphony of guacamole, flavorful grilled chicken, green chilies, and chopped onions.
Maybe the only noticeable health aspect about any of the burgers is the hand-cut potato wedges in place of fries, which were a bit bland compared to your traditional grease stalks. Consuming fried potato wedges instead of fries is like consuming slightly less potent crack in that it’s still addictive and damaging, only with less of a high.
Also, skip over side fodder like pastas, which were, for some reason, almost completely devoid of seasoning.
For drinks, choose from an assortment of shakes (18-19RMB), signature fruit drinks such as Papaya Pear (25RMB), coffees, teas, fresh juice, soda and beers starting from 16RMB.
Ignore any conception that Cheers is a healthy burger alternative. If you’re going to eat a burger and fries you’re going to reap the consequences. And these consequences are both delicious and economical.
