Gilbert Arenas might not have signed with the Shanghai Sharks yet, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get your fix of American basketball.
CCTV5 have just signed a deal with the NBA to extend coverage, and the formation of a joint team to promote and market the broadcasts.
Live games, delayed games, and original NBC shows are all covered by the agreement. They will also produce a customised weekly magazine show for the China market.
Variety got feedback from the Jiang Heping, director of CCTV:
NBA represents the best professional basketball league in the world and we are thrilled to bring our fans more authentic NBA excitement through our record comprehensive coverage.
NBA began it’s partnership with CCTV 26 years ago with an All-Star Game broadcast in 1987. Fans can expect live games four nights a week (presumably in the morning), and tape-delayed broadcasts at other times.
