Pencil This In is all the things you’d want to do this Monday through Thursday. Get hooked on Barbarossa cocktails on Monday, explore differences and similarities between two cultures at Rubato’s Asian-European dance clash on Tuesday – or pay Dada a visit for the weekly Sub-Cinema evening with forgetten cinema gems, this week with 12 Monkeys. On Wednesday, you can check out the new exhibition at Minsheng Art Museum. Thursday night sees a fashion show at Eden by designer Vanessa Chiu. Read on for all the details, or check out our calendar for more!
Barbarossa Happy Hour @ Barbarossa
Yes, they’ve raised their prices like about every other place we like to go just recently (boo). But since the cocktails are 50% off during happy hours (meaning you pay 2 kuai more than before as far as we remember), it’s still a decent deal for what you get served. At least cocktails like the passion fruit mojito taste like they’ve been made with actual fruit and not with flavored toxic waste waters like in another (pricey) place we’ve been to just a week ago.
5-8pm // Barbarossa // 231 West Nanjing Road, Inside People’s Park, Next to Art Museum (南京西路231号人民公园内, 上海美术馆旁)
milk & bread / rice & water @ Shanghai Dramatic Arts Center
milk & bread / rice & water is the latest work by German dance company Rubato. As the title hints, the show explores the confrontation of two cultures and what separates them. And that lead topic was executed in every step of the production. 3 Chinese dancers and 3 Western dancers where worked on the show separately in China and Germany, before being united for the finalization in Berlin. The result of the confrontation and collaboration can be seen this Tuesday and Wednesday at SDAC. Get your tickets here.

Sub-Cinema: 12 Monkeys
Terry Gilliam’s celebrated Sci-Fi film drew direct inspiration by Chris Marker’s La Jetée, which you had the chance to see at Sub-Cinema last week. The world of 12 Monkeys is a post-apocalyptic nightmare where a killer virus made life on the surface of the earth almost impossible. Will time travel be the key to salvation? Find out at DADA, as usual with free popcorn to every drink.
