Shanghai’s Tin Foil Hat theatre is hosting a performance of the play, Interview.
An adaptation of the 2003 Dutch film written and directed by Theo van Gogh (remade in 2007 with Steve Buscemi and Sienna Miller), the play depicts a celebrity soap star, Katya, being interviewed by an unwilling political journalist, Pierre.
Set in Shanghai, it starts as a traditional interview, but both parties gradually begin to reveal their deepest, darkest secrets to each other.
Producer Mirian Keuning says the story is just the end of a narrative that began online:
Our audiences are not just seeing a live performance. They are involved with the characters’ lives from an early stage of the production through the use of side narratives that climax on the performance night.
Interview is being performed every day until December 2nd. Tickets cost 180 RMB in advance, 200 RMB on the door.
Venue: Rooftop Events Space at Anken Green
