British band Transition has been deported from Taiwan despite recording the country’s Olympic song.
Transition was fined NT$90,000 and deported for violating work permits back in 2010 when they accepted a cash payment for performing in a church. Their final appeal was refused this September. However the band remains strong promoters of Taiwanese culture in the UK and continue to promote their album Borderlands.
The band mates first came to Taiwan for the 2005 Spring Scream and ended up staying in the country for three years, studying Chinese and writing songs in both English and Chinese. Their break through song Duibuqi wo de zhongwen bu hao (Sorry my Chinese is no good) serves as an informal anthem for students studying Chinese in Taiwan.
The band was honored to record the
Chinese Taipei Taiwan Olympic song and to perform it at the London Olympics. However since then they have not returned to the country.
