Everyone with a basic knowledge of physics understands Newton’s Third Law, ‘to every action there is always an equal and opposite reaction’; and yet, when a Shenzhen woman poured coke into an ATM money did not spit out as she expected. How do you explain that, Mr Scientist?!
A middle-aged-woman reportedly emptied three larges bottles of coke into an ATM in Nanshan District, Shenzhen, according to local media, in the belief that this would cause the machines to expel money.
The woman, surnamed Cao, was either the victim of an ineffective scam or a cruel prank. A person telephoned her over the weekend claiming to be from the government. He told Cao that she owed 15,000 yuan on her social security card and that if she didn’t pay by 5pm that day she would be imprisoned. For some reason, the caller then told the woman that ATMs would spit out money if coke was poured on them; even more amazingly, the woman believed him.
Bank security camera footage shows the woman pouring coke over an ATM while talking on her phone. She then proceeded to another ATM but was preventing from dousing it with coke by security guards.
Neither the bank nor the police intend to press charges against the woman.
