A school in Nanning, Guangxi Zhang Autonomous Region, is to be investigated by authorities after a bus transporting schoolchildren was stopped for a routine traffic check and found to be containing 115 passengers, according to the Southern Metropolis Daily (CN).
Anyone who has travelled much by bus in urban China might look at that number and think “not bad”. That’s what, only 2 or 3 times the recommended capacity? Nevertheless, adults can choose to get on a dangerously overcrowded bus (drivers/conductors shouldn’t let us, but thats another conversation entirely), it’s a different matter altogether when children are placed at danger without any say in the matter.
In December 2011, a bus in Gansu Province that had only 9 seats but an incredible 64 people crammed inside collided with a truck, causing the deaths of at least 18 kindergarten children.
