On Tuesday morning Guangdong official Huang Guang was convicted by a Yangjiang county court for the murder of billionaire Long Liyuan. Huang, the former vice director of the Guangdong Agriculture Department, was sentenced to death on charges of fraud, perjury and murder. Huang has appealed the sentence.
Huang admitted in October this year to poisoning billionaire Long Liyuan’s cat soup back in December 2011, in order to avoid repaying a debt. Huang had accepted 2.54 million yuan from Long between 2009 and 2011 but gambled the money away.
Huang will be fined 100,000 yuan and shall pay compensation of over 580,000 yuan to the injured parties family.
Long Liyuan’s family are reportedly pleased with the sentence, his son told journalists: “We accept the death sentence, we are satisfied.”
