In recent days a post has appeared on Weibo showing a banner flying from an apartment building, on which is simply written “Save me”. It has been attributed to Guo Hongwei, an artist and petitioner from Jilin who was arrested in April this year for mourning Yang Jia, a young man who was sentenced to death after stabbing six police officers who had beaten him back in 2008.
The post is now being censored on weibo.
The Weibo post that accompanied the photo:
[In hope the Chinese People can all bravely step out] On the evening of December 13, Jilin petitioner Guo Hongwei’s Beijing residence was surrounded by more than 20 police officers, the water, electric and gas supplies to his home were all cut off. After calls from all levels of society, the water and electricity have been reconnected. Currently Guo Hongwei cannot leave the apartment, has no other food except a limited amount of mantou and instant noodles. On the December 16, Guo Hongwei hung a banner from his window on which was written “Save me”.
