Merry Christmas y’all!
Here are some Christmasy pictures from the Paulaner Christmas market a few weeks ago, where we indulged in glühwein (mulled wine), glühbeer, more glüwein and plenty of snacks from the booths until we were ready to happily wobble home.
In case you’ve never heard of glühbeer (like us): They put a glowing iron stick in a glass of draft beer, causing the foam to caramelize. The result is a funky chimera of cold beer and a warm layer of thick foam. We rated it “interesting” before we continued to devote our attention to another mug of glühwein.
Besides the ubiquitous eateries and drinks, there were numerous local designers and artisans selling handcrafted gifts. All in all, it felt like an authentic replica of a German Christmas market, if it weren’t for the added Shanghai characteristics palm trees and a lung full of haze.
Enjoy the pictures, and happy holidays from the Shanghaiist team!
