I love zoos, I really do. But the zoo experience in China can often be quite painful, watching other visitors bang on the glass, shout at and/or throw food to the animals. While such activity goes against my Western zoo-going sensibilities, I can’t really blame visitors for acting like that since, outside of the Chengdu panda sanctuary, zoo staff rarely step in to police bad behaviour.
That being said, you have to be a special kind of asshole to throw snowballs at a caged animal that has no means of retaliating, as visitors to the zoo in Hangzhou are apparently wont to do.
Hey assholes, don’t throw anything at animals at the zoo, or someday someone will throw you to those animals.
Hey parents, you did a shitty job raising your horrible kid.
