The Weibo rumour mill has been heating up surrounding heartthrob singer Wang Leehom’s “gaymance” with piano prince Li Yundi, since Wang posted pictures on the social network last year of the duo enjoying a family Thanksgiving feast at Li’s Beijing home. It was not until the 3rd of January that Wang decided to put on a lid on the gossip by releasing a statement on Weibo, “I’m straight. Li Yundi likes girls, too.”
The clarification was hit by backlash from furious fans who claimed it came too late – some speculating it was a planned PR move to promote his December single 12 Zodiacs. The so-called “gaymance” between the pair, widely termed as Homdi Love, supposedly kicked off when Wang and Li collaborated for CCTV New Year’s Gala last year.
Team Homdi who had been celebrating the (probably) fictitious relationship online and elsewhere, were furious at the 37-year-old singer, more than 3,000 of them voted “Leehom you don’t know love” in a Weibo poll.
A picture of Li Yundi, Wang Leehom and Wang’s ex A-mei at A-mei’s club was posted on Weibo by Li.
